Nancy Opel to Star in Amanda Green Musical, For the Love of Tiffany
By Andrew Gans
Nancy Opel - who received a Tony nomination for her performance in Urinetown
- will star in For the Love of Tiffany,
a new musical that will play the New York International Fringe Festival, Aug. 13-22.
Written by singer-songwriter Amanda Green and composer Curtis Moore, For the Love of Tiffany is billed as "A Wifetime Original Musical." According to a press statement, the musical comedy "draws its inspiration from the trash, tragedy and triumph found in the made-for-TV movies of women's television. The protagonist, Stephanie, is obsessed with the trials and tribulations of the heroines from Wifetime movies, at the expense of having any real adventures of her own. That all changes the day she meets both the man of her dreams and her favorite Wifetime Movie star, the titular Tiffany Jenkins.
Opel stars in the title role with Marnie Nicolella as Stephanie and recent Look of Love star Jonathan Dokuchitz as "the man of her dreams." Others in the cast include lyricist Green, Jeremy Peter Johnson and Rebecca Jones. Matthew Brookshire - who also penned the musical's book with Thomas Mizer - directs.
A graduate of the Juilliard School, Nancy Opel's Broadway credits include Urinetown, Triumph of Love, Ring Round the Moon, Getting Away with Murder, Sunday in the Park with George, Anything Goes
Off-Broadway, the singer-actress has been seen in All in the Timing, Mere Mortals, Lives of the Saints, Hundreds of Hats, Don Juan in Chicago and Personals. Opel's screen credits include The Ice Storm, Second Skin, Marcix, Law & Order, Ryan's Hope and One Life to Live.
Amanda Green is the daughter of Phyllis Newman and the late lyricist/book writer Adolph Green. Her musical with Curtis Moore, Up the Week Without a Paddle,
received a Los Angeles Drama Critics Circle Award nomination for Best Score as well as a Garland Award for Best Score. Green is the winner of two MAC Awards, a Backstage Magazine Bistro Award and the Abe Olman Award for Excellence in Songwriting from The Songwriter's Hall of Fame. She has performed on Broadway, at Carnegie Hall, Town Hall and the Manhattan Theatre Club. Green is also a contributor of humorous articles to Playboy Magazine.
